Hints and Tips on What to Do in Umhlanga

Umhlanga is a residential, commercial and resort town north of Durban. It is a buzzing town with a wonderful atmosphere full of holiday apartments and hotels.

Visiting Umhlanga

There are many things to do when visiting Umhlanga while you are flying or traveling alone, family or partner. Don’t miss the beautiful and safe beaches where you can go surfing or body boarding as well as snorkelling and exploring the rock pools. A walk along the promenade is always such fun for the young through to the elderly. Let your children play and wander along the beach while you watch them and stroll along the promeande. There are always other people walking or running for both fun and fitness.

The best time to go

The best times to go are early morning as well as early evening when you will be blessed with one of Africa’s beautiful sunrises or sunsets and may even catch a glimpse of the local school of dolphins. Don’t miss out on sunset cocktails on the verandah at the newly renovated Oyster Box Hotel.

With a view over the calm ocean and lighthouse watch as the colours of the sky change while the sun sets behind you. A wonderfully romantic setting to say ‘I do’ or even to pop that special question. For an educational experience go and visit the Natal Sharks Board. Here you can watch as a shark found in the nets is disected to try and learn more about it’s diet and behaviour. Watch a short presentation on the study of sharks and how scientists have discovered and are improving on ways to keep bathers safe in our warm waters.
