Car-hire intelligence
Start with the rental search. Finish with the complete cost.
Compare the vehicle, collection point and rate first, then use the checks below before committing. Partner results are live and subject to the provider’s final conditions.
01Before searching
Confirm the driver’s age, licence history, collection time, passenger count, luggage and route. International rentals may require an international driving permit in addition to the original licence. Check the destination authority and rental company rather than assuming a South African licence is sufficient.
02Deposit and payment-card test
The collection desk may require a physical card in the lead driver’s name and enough available credit for an authorisation. A prepaid or debit card may not qualify. Record the deposit, release process and currency before choosing a non-refundable rate.
03Protection, excess and exclusions
Separate the rental price, included protection, potential excess and exclusions. Tyres, glass, underbody, roof, keys, misfuelling and unauthorised roads may be treated differently. Compare the agreement—not only a product label.
04Collection inspection
Photograph or record every side, wheels, windscreen, interior, fuel and mileage in accordance with the supplier’s procedure. Ensure existing damage is recorded before departure and test essential controls before leaving the facility.
05Fuel, mileage, tolls and borders
Check whether fuel is full-to-full, prepaid or charged another way; whether mileage is limited; how tolls and administration fees work; and whether one-way or cross-border use needs written permission.
06Return without surprises
Allow time for refuelling, locating the return area and completing an inspection. Keep the fuel receipt, return record and final condition evidence until the deposit is released and the closing statement is correct.
